Good News, Bad News?

Hey, I hope life is already rock’in in 2011! If life is starting off with a bang in 2011 I have something that will make it even better and if things are looking a little gloomy what I am about to talk about will surely turn things around.

Everything is perspective, right? Truly, nothing is good or bad unless we think it is so. A quick example of this is a short story I believe I read in “The Power Of Now” (not 100% sure, I have read so many of those books). It states that we don’t know what is good or bad for us, but our perception of what is good or bad can severely alter our moods and our entire lives (stay with me here). Now I am going to recall the story as best I could. The details are moot and it’s possible that I destroyed the story completely, but the overall message is the same. The story goes something like this:

Good News, Bad News?

A guy (lets call him Jim) entered his name into a sweepstakes and won a car. All his friends and family said

“Wow! That is the best thing that has happened to you, your luck is really changing.”

A week later Jim was in a terrible accident in that same car and it almost cost him his life. His friends and family said

“if you didn’t win that car this would have never happened to you, winning that car was the worst thing that happened to you”.

A week later in the middle of the night, while Jim was still recovering from his car accident in hospital his house was involved in a massive land slide that completely demolished the house and everything in it. All Jim’s friends and family were in shock. They said…

“Holy cr#p, if you didn’t win that car you would have never got into that car accident, then you would have been in your house and not in the hospital and you would have surely died from that land slide.”

This simple story just goes to show that we have no idea what is good or bad for us. What we might perceive as bad could be the best thing that has ever happened to us. Life has a funny way of unraveling, but if you believe that it is all in your favor then nothing really seems so bad anymore.

With this belief, there is nothing to get angry at, scared of or unhappy about! Continue with this belief and 2011 will be a good year icon wink Good News, Bad News?

There is one important thing that I forgot to add. That is: when you are doing things that are healthy and constructive for you, your friends, family and members of our society, then it is easier to believe that everything that happens is for a good reason. When you are acting selfishly, always complaining and doing things that are destructive to you, your friends, or members of society, it is a lot easier to believe that bad things are happening to you, just a thought… what are yours?

    I think it’s the way we handle things that we are dealt in our lives that matter most. And if we treat people, including ourselves well, we will be happier- even if those people don’t treat us well.

    Thanks for sending this Ian! Good or bad, I believe everything that happens to us is part of God’s plan. I try really hard every day to be accepting of that!

    The lucky ones look at a cup half full instead of half empty. When visiting my mom’s serior residence, the ladies sat outside enjoying the sunshine, some of them complaining of their old age ills. I saw two quite elderly gentlemen in their motorized wheelchairs. They were racing each other in the parking lot. Now that’s a cup half full attitude. We should all try it.

    Very good Ian. An accaptance is thr answer to all my problems today;When I am distrurbed, it is because I find some person,place,thing, or situation- some fact of my life-unacceptable to me, and I can find no serenity until I accept that person place, thing situation as being exacatly the way it is supposed to be at this moment;
    Nothing, absolutely nothing ,happens in God’s world by mistake. I need to concentrate not so much on what needs to be changed in the world as to what needs to be changed in me and in my attitudes; Then and only then can I be happy;
